Group 3 Triumph

Enjoyed Tuesday's class discussion, especially as it touched on Thanksgiving with, and without, the family.  It connected quite well with JMH's section on Celebrations.  This has been a wonderful book.  Now on to Generosity.

FQ:  According to JMH we can't do everything we want in order to be happy.  Why?   The 3 kinds of happiness conflict with one another.  P. 314

DQ:  On p. 313 JMH discusses working through the complex feelings we have around abundance so that we can make the most of what we have for the greatest number of us.  What do you see is the relationship between abundance, meaning and happiness?

  1. I apologize for missing class Tuesday! I had a job interview! (I've actually had a kajillion, so we will see what happens!).

Factual Question: Who stated "The reason why we doubt hardly anything is that we never test our common impressions. We do not probe the base, where the fault and weakness lies, we dispute only about the branches"
    Answer: Montaigne

Discussion: After reading the Conclusion, will you be more lassaiz-faire with your decisions? I would love to do something out of the ordinary for me, simply because its not my "norm". Who knows, I may love it!

  2. Yes, our discussion has emboldened me to tackle the Thanksgiving holiday one more time. Maybe my problem with it has been attitudinal. For instance, I keep fantasizing about interrupting the traditionally pious thanksgiving prayer with a renditino of William Burroughs' alternative expression of gratitude. Stay tuned, I'll post that soon.

As for Ms. Lyubomirsky, I suppose it would be natural to read her book (Myths of H'ness) next. If you do, anyone, please give us a review.
