In Aesthetics, the closest thing I could relate the feeling I get to is the Sublime, as expressed by Kant and Collingwood.
While the sublime is differed from the beautiful, could both not be considered modes of happiness? Or, is the sublime simply an entirely different feeling?
I can't say that any feelings or experiences of the sublime don't intermingle with happiness, but I can certainly say that they don't always go hand-in-hand. Amusement, perhaps? Intrigue? But not really modes of happiness. In the case of the beautiful, there's something more positive there that generally does go alongside happiness, but I also feel as though both of these experiences are so whole and undefinable on their own that it's too difficult to try to lump them in with other categories. Mostly because they're both so closely linked to making judgments of and about things outside of the self, whereas happiness usually has to do less with making judgments and more with the simple feeling. When I call something beautiful or sublime, there's an implied "And you should agree with me," but when I say "I'm happy," I'm not inviting anyone to agree or disagree with a judgment--I'm simply stating my feelings. I think I agree. I would definitely say my idea of the sublime is more aligned with a complicated mixture of intrigue, amusement, and appreciation. Although even that is a crude comparison.

I will always stare, open-mouthed, at those women. They are both incredibly attractive and unattractive simultaneously. I rather enjoy that confusion...
